Clay had a sign outside his office that read: “Anomalies Wanted.” He believed that seeking out the unexpected fosters the greatest advances in learning—and being proven wrong can better enhance a theory or test it in new ways. Only by seeking out anomalies can we blaze a clear path toward the future.
